Abstract:
This story is about two students learning that it is possible for health care professionals to show profound empathy not only to their patients, but to their colleagues as well. It demonstrates how our conscious or unconscious biases shape our view of the people we work with and emphasizes that as we increasingly value empathy and compassion as indicators of quality health care, dismantling the judgmental medical culture and changing our expectations of each other might be an essential activity.
